Building a Modern Farmhouse Style Dining Room

Ok, so I don’t understand how this dining room ever came about to be colored an army green. Really? Don’t get me wrong, I like army green as a color, just not for a dining room. I wish I knew the story behind the color choice, but what I knew for sure, was that this room was in dire need of a transformation.

Slowly, I was transitioning our home to a modern farmhouse style decor. Step one, for this room was to paint the walls, and selecting flooring was another challenge. The floor was a gunstock orangey oak hardwood. We wanted to give the room a warm and modern feel, so we chose to change the hardwood to a 5″maple dark hardwood. Ripping out the flooring was quite a job, but the results were well worth the effort. Installing the hardwood on a diagonal was a great choice and gave the room so much visual interest.

I also painted the window and crown molding trim a white semi-gloss. Adding a dark brown color on the upper third of the walls really made the molding stand out. I added a long rectangular fabric chandelier to give the room more texture. unspecified

Here is a night time view of the room. As much as I like adding area rugs to a room, I felt this room didn’t need one, the dark maple hardwood floors are beautiful on its own.
