Kitchen Renovation “One Room Challenge” (Week 4) Range Hood Transformation

How did we get to week 4 already?! Really! I’m not week 4 ready, I’m week 2 ready! Seems like the weeks pass quicker when I’m under the gun.

If you’re joining for the first time, welcome. I’m thrilled you stopped in. Happy Haute Home is participating in the “One Room Challenge” hosted by Linda at Calling it Home. Linda hosts this bi-annual event every April and October. During this event 20 design bloggers transform a space over 6 weeks and post their updates each Wednesday. The spaces they transform are really incredible, definitely check them out.

I am a guest participant in the One Room Challenge, renovating our kitchen. You can catch up on our renovation progress here Week 1/Week 2/Week 3/

This past week has flown by, if I paint everyday for the next 10 days I will meet the deadline. So far, the painting I have completed has been incredibly time consuming, but I know it will be worth the effort when I’m done.

As much as I complain about the painting, I find it somewhat therapeutic. I usually paint when the kids are out of the house, I blare completely inappropriate tunes and let loose. This week I was getting my rap on listening to Kanye.

Y’all ’bout to turn shit up
I’m ’bout to tear shit down
I’m ’bout to air shit out
Now what the fuck they gon’ say now?

I know what you’re thinking. Kanye? Seriously? Isn’t he married to Kim Kardashin?

Yea I hear ya, but he did help me get a very important piece of the kitchen painted…the monstrous range hood! This beast is ginourmous! Took 12 hours to paint, 4 hours for each coat using primer HERE and 2 coats of paint HERE. The side corbels were very time consuming with all the detail. I highly recommend this Benjamin Moore paint for cabinets.

IMG_9167My husband spent the entire weekend painting the kitchen walls. When you all paint, do you use blue tape on the edges? I’ve tried to convince him that he’s a good enough painter and doesn’t need to use tape HERE, but he’s not buying it….he spends hours taping around the doors and windows and achieves amazing results.

I was feeling a bit guilty on Saturday, the weather was beautiful and I was running around with the kids. I stopped to enjoy a few drinks with friends, all while my hubby was painting. You know what? He did an incredible job, looks very professional! I may let him paint more rooms 🙂 The wall color coordinates beautifully with the cabinets and the pendants.

The 2 new pendants we added over the island, replaced the 4 lights that were originally installed. Going from 4 lights to 2 gives the space a cleaner and less cluttered look.

Moving onto another kitchen project, our windows and doors. Our kitchen has 6 large windows, a single door, and a pair of double doors. The ceiling in this space is 11 feet high, making the windows and doors appear out of proportion to the size of the room and height of the ceiling. To give a more dramatic appearance to the doors and windows, we added extra trim and molding to the top.

fullsizeoutput_74f9Big difference no?! You can check out this DIY project HERE.

My focus this upcoming week it to get the second island and lower wall cabinets painted. Any suggestions on tunes to get me motivated?
