The 4 Light Iron Pendant – Get the Look for Less

Sometimes they are referred to as chandeliers, sometimes called pendants. However you want to name these fixtures, there is no denying that these lights have made their way into today’s kitchen at a rapid pace!

What Makes the 4 Light Pendant so Popular?

For one, it is made from Iron. Iron’s popularity and versatility is seen across the globe – from Africa and India to Europe and China. Iron has been used for 5000 years, it is believed that the first iron used by humans was likely to have come from meteorites. The onset of the Iron Age saw widespread use of iron in tools, weapons, and farming.

Today, iron is still the most useful metal known. It is the key ingredient in the production of steel – an essential part of modern living from buildings to transportation, and machinery to household appliances.

The metal also has been a favorite in both utilitarian and ornamental design. Blacksmiths learned that iron could be produced by achieving an extremely high heat in ovens which softens the metal to make it workable, allowing the iron to be hammered into different shapes and sizes.

The Use of Iron in Modern Design

New innovations in production have eliminated difficulties that come with forged iron. The difficult process of ironworking, one that requires high and consistent heat, as well as skilled artisans, has moved away from techniques used in recent years.

Due to advancements in technology, we can find the trademark features of iron fixtures and furnishings at an affordable price. Most modern manufacturers incorporate more durable materials in the construction of their pieces but keep the signature elements that we imagine when we think of iron design—elegantly swirling scrollwork, refined finishes, sturdy construction, and decorative versatility.

How to Decorate with Iron

One of the great benefits of iron is that it can be used both indoors and outdoors in a wide range of furniture and lighting options. Lighting fixtures can be found in a full range of styles, from traditional to transitional and contemporary decor. The more modern of these designs are often paired with frosted glass shades or ones that offer a mellow vibe with straightforward, minimal construction, like the 4 light pendant.

The 4 Light Iron Pendant in Modern Kitchens

During our recent kitchen renovation HERE, we added 2 bronze iron open light pendants over one of the islands.

Recently, gold toned pendants have become popular in kitchens, pairing beautifully with similar hardware but mixing metals is also a refined and elegant look.

We purchased our bronze pendants from Restoration Hardware HERE, but you can get the look for a lot less HERE.

The versatility of these pendants is unbeatable. I love the minimal yet modern look of them with the exposed chain, and having the added benefit of no glass to clean! Especially when used in a kitchen where grease and grime are prevalent, and who isn’t looking for less work?

What kind of light fixtures do you have in your kitchen? I’d love to hear from you.
