Thrifting for Home Decor, Check Out My Haul and See How I Styled my New Finds

I have a confession, I’m not a big thrifter. I am more the person donating instead of purchasing. There, I said it.

Why? Good question. I wasn’t raised going to thrift stores. Sure, we went to a random yard sale here or there, but thrifting just wasn’t a big thing when I was growing up. If I had to assign a percentage, I would say 95% of the time, we purchased new. I do remember Dad buying french antiques as often as he could, but most of our furniture and clothes were bought brand new.

I have purchased many vintage china patterns from thrift stores and love them all. Check out Styling a Glass Cabinet with Vintage Dishes to see several beautiful sets.

As I get older, and my style continues to change, I seem to be drawn to older pieces of furniture. So much of what I see in stores today do nothing for me, and I can pass on things that I was previously drawn to. Not sure if losing my parents has changed my style, and now I long for things that remind me of my childhood?

It seems to be a thing with our youth today to want to go thrifting for clothing. My daughter often asks to go to thrift shops in search of vintage clothes. This new generation is very concerned with our environment and saving the planet and thrifting is becoming a big part of their lives.

I was happy to go with her to our local thrift store. She didn’t find what she was looking for but I walked out with a haul!

This oil painting was a bargain at $22. It’s quite large and I’m drawn to the colors. I love blues and the pop of red. It reminds me of a european landscape maybe off the coast of France somewhere? I love it and had to have it.

We have large walls and it will look great in our living room. It’s still on the floor now, but I’ll be sure to post when we get it hung up.

I was also immediately drawn to this lamp shade. Sitting close by was a black base which looked perfect with the shade. I’m going to set it up in the foyer and will show you the finished area when done.

But, my real find…was these two beautiful baby blue silk wing chairs.

They appear to be in great condition and were cleaned and sanitized by the thrift store and the fabric is still in very good condition. Comfortable as well, and love the color! Handy tip, a great way to move thrifted furniture is by hiring local removalists that can move your bigger items with ease.

I’m very drawn to subtle hues of blues and pinks and have been wanting to introduce more blue into our home. These chairs have started me on a new trend, watch out! I think I have to add blue to all our rooms now!

How Did I Style the Wing Chairs?

They are sitting front and center in the foyer.

They give the space more of a lived in look and feel.

I made a few small changes to the area to accommodate the chair color, but very subtle, like moving a couple things around. After all, I should be thinking about Fall, and I can’t wait to style the table for the cooler months. Be on the look out for an upcoming post!

You know I love pinks and adding pale blues to the space makes it feel romantic and soft. The candles help too 🙂

What do you think about my new finds? Drop me a comment below!

I am already having visions of a blue and white Christmas tree with these chairs on either side!! I’m getting giddy just thinking about it!

I think Bentley loves them…new smells in the house too! Haha…
