Improving Our Health by Watching a Sunrise

Did you know that watching the sunrise or sunset every day is a wonderful way to improve our mental and physical health?

Sunrises and Sunsets are one of the most beautiful aspects of Nature, and partaking in the act can improve our health and well being. The act of finding a beautiful and peaceful spot to watch the day begin or end, and enjoy the light at it’s most colorful, is the perfect opportunity to slow down and de-stress.

Any time we can put our lives on pause and simply breathe, quiet our mind, and enjoy the moment is a positive thing. We spend so much time rushing, worrying, and ticking off items on the to-do list, that it is easy to get wrapped up in a spiral of stress.

Watching a sunrise is something we can plan to do,ย knowing exactly the time of day to free ourselves, so it’s easy to schedule into our day.

Our home is located on top of a hill and we are very fortunate to be able to watch the sunrise without leaving home.

IMG_6094Taking a moment in the morning or evening to just sit and watch something beautiful is a great solution to all the hustle and bustle of the day.

fullsizeoutput_7f70Even if I only catch a glimpse through the window, the colors of the sunrise brings a smile to my face every time.

fullsizeoutput_7d47The colors are so vibrant and the moment so peaceful, I love starting my day with this sight.

Ever notice that sunrises and sunsets look more beautiful in Winter months? There is a scientific reason why.ย The colors of a sunrise or sunset are based on how light is entering and traveling through the atmosphere. Dust and pollution particles in the air scatter light and reduce how much makes it to the ground, thus reducing the intensity of colors at sunrise and sunset. So, when it’s hazy out, the sunrise or sunset colors will be more muted. When the air is crisp and clear, these hours offer up more vibrant colors.
