Is the Dyson Hair Dryer Worth the Cost?

Over the holidays, I was thrilled when my husband gifted me a Dyson hair dryer. But I almost fell over when I found out the cost, after using it for a month I’m here to tell you if I think it’s worth the cost.

I think we all know Dyson is on the leading edge of technology, which is fantastic. We have all been in public restrooms and used the super powerful Dyson hand dryers without having to press a button…and when it comes to public restrooms the less we have to touch the better! BUT their products are very expensive, are they worth the hype?

We have owned a couple Dyson vacuum cleaners and I can say I am very pleased with how well they clean and perform.fullsizeoutput_977eThe vacuum HERE sucks up an enormous amount of dirt from our floors and carpets, it’s amazing to see the canister full after just one use. It is important to clean the filters though, which I didn’t…like ever…and ended up taking the vacuum in to be serviced. It was my own fault, so I learned a valuable lesson on maintenance.

My husband and I believe in Dyson products and believe they are among the best in the industry. The vacuum is fairly reasonably priced at less than $350, not too bad for a top of the line cleaner that will last for many years with weekly use.

But let’s talk about the hair dryer. Yes, Dyson has come out with a revolutionary hair dryer HERE. But wow it is expensive! Is it worth it?

I have used the same BaByliss hairdryer for many years and it has held up well. No problems with it burning out or not working properly BUT I was never happy with my blow out. I have very fine hair and the ends always looked frayed and messy. The dryer was also bulky and hard to hold, I never felt like I was able to properly manage the dryer in my hand. I longed for a beautiful blowout like my hair stylist is able to give me, but she holds the dryer from the shaft and not the handle, that is not something I am able to do myself.

It was time to find an alternative, a dryer that I can easily manage, one that will give me a professional looking blowout and one that won’t damage my hair. I came across the Dyson hair dryer and wanted to give it a try. Christmas morning I found a beautiful wrapped box under our tree! I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to try it.

fullsizeoutput_9794The Dyson supersonic hair dryer HERE has sensors to regulate the heat and change the level according to how wet the hair is thus preventing damage to the hair and protecting its natural shine. It also dries VERY quickly with a lot less heat than other dryers. And the motor is located in the handle, making it more comfortable and manageable to hold. That checks all my boxes!

fullsizeoutput_9789The dryer also comes with a rubber pad, making it easy to rest the dryer on the counter while styling without fear of it flying away.

fullsizeoutput_9787The dryer comes with several attachments. The smoothing nozzle dries hair gently using smooth, wide air.

%YhCwqQETtqdW6vlzgDsiA The styling concentrator produces a high-velocity blade of air that’s makes styling easy and because the air is focused, you can style one section at a time – without disturbing the rest of your hair.

The diffuser, which I haven’t tried yet, is great for curly hair. It disperses air evenly around each of your curls, similar to natural drying, which helps to reduce frizz. The dryer has 3 speed settings, gentle, regular and fast drying. It also has 4 heat settings and a cold shot button to set the hair after drying.

My analysis, I’m “blown” away by this dryer! I have had nothing but “good” hair days since using it. Since it makes my ends look smooth, I keep my hair straight more days than not. I used to use a curling iron on my hair after blow drying because my ends looked so frayed, but now they look smooth and I love the look!

fullsizeoutput_975bMy hair feels fuller, more natural looking, and softer. I also gets compliments on how nice my hair looks, friends think I just had a professional blow out and are surprised to learn I did it myself.

So is it worth the cost? To me it is. If I can achieve professional looking salon results at home and use less heat on my hair than YES, it is worth the cost to me.
