WOW! I still can’t believe we had the opportunity to attend the Grammy Awards LIVE in LA. We will remember this once in a lifetime experience forever.
I’m sure you’re wondering how on earth did we get tickets? Can anyone go to the Grammys? This award ceremony is limited to the music industry and those associated with the industry…or those associated with someone associated with the music industry 🙂
We are lucky enough to have a friend who produced a Grammy Nominee! Crazy right! I mean WOW..how lucky are we? The incredibly talented Snatam Kaur HERE was chosen from 21,000 entries and nominated for a Grammy Award for New Age Music! Not only was she nominated but she was asked to perform at the SHOW!!
We were beyond excited to have this opportunity to attend a show with so many talented singers from all types of music. My husband and I love music and always have, so we jumped at the chance to see a LIVE performance with so many of our favorite singers and performers. We also saw this as a fabulous opportunity to take a family vacation. Our kids love visiting California and they love skiing so why not combine the two.
The one disadvantage to taking vacation in February is that our kids were going to miss a week of school. On the flip side, a huge benefit to taking a vacation in February is that all other kids are in school! OMG! I loved vacationing during off season! Restaurants, airports, hotels…you name it are WAY less crowded. It was fabulous! We have never taken a vacation with the kids during off season, we always vacation during the summer for obvious reasons, school is out. But everything is so crowded during the summer and peak season…to me that is miserable 😩.
One of our worst vacations was to Niagara Falls a couple years ago. We traveled during the summer and it was awful. Thousands of people everywhere, waiting in long lines…to me that is not a bit of fun! I’d rather stay home than deal with all that. I didn’t always feel this way, maybe it’s age, now I am way less tolerant of huge crowds.
Our vacation began by flying to LA where we stayed directly next to the Staple Center, where the Grammys was held. Our Hotel was great, very spacious and had everything we needed.
So how does one prepare for such an event? With plenty of help! OK, I picked out my dress, shoes, and accessories but called in the PROS to help with hair and makeup on the day of the event.
Being in a city I am unfamiliar with, I didn’t know where to go to have my hair or makeup done. My good friend recommended GLAMSQUAD. Oh wow, this service is awesome. GLAMSQUAD is an on demand beauty service that comes to you. They do hair, nails, and makeup in and around New York City, Los Angeles, Orange County, South Florida, Washington DC, Boston, and the Bay Area. I loved this service, they came directly to my hotel and did their magic.
Of course I also wanted to look my best in a new dress I bought, so I prepared ahead of time and started a weight loss program on Jan 1. WH\hen the time came to put on my dress, I felt great! Check out How I lost 10 Pounds in 5 Weeks.
Why can’t I get my hair and makeup to look like this? These ladies gave me a French twist and subtle makeup. I don’t like heavy makeup with layers upon layers of powder and contouring. Personally I feel it can make one look older..especially with all that makeup sitting in my wrinkles! Um…no thanks don’t need help there!
Once we were dressed and glammed up, we walked next door to the Microsoft Theater.
This coveted ticket includes not only entrance to the broadcasted Grammy Award ceremony but also to the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony! Pinch ME!!
The Premiere Ceremony was a huge treat! We were seated in Row 4, so close to the stage! We were there with our good friends and had an amazing time.
Shaggy was our host for the Premiere Ceremony. The Jamaican musician, DJ, singer and Marine served in the Persian Gulf War.
We were on the edge of our seats when the award was announced for Best New Age Album. Unfortunately Snatam Kaur did not win the Grammy but the honor of being nominated will live on with her forever.
Snatams’ performance at the Ceremony was so moving, you have to check it out HERE.
You can also watch the entire Premiere Ceremony HERE and check out the list of Grammy Winners HERE.
Once the Premiere Ceremony was over, we walked next door to the Staple Center where we had the thrill and honor of watching the entire Grammy Awards LIVE Telecast!
We had an opportunity to have our picture taken outside the arena before the show. We felt so glamorous dressed up in formal attire for this Black Tie Event.
AND if you watched the show on TV, you know it was SPECTACULAR! Over 3 hours of nonstop action and performances.
The show was hosted by Alicia Keys and started with a very special surprise appearance by Former First Lady Michelle Obama! No-one was expecting this and we were all wowed by this special group of women as they discussed the power of music. The Former Lady said “Whether we like country or rap or rock, music helps us share ourselves, our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys. It allows us to hear one another, to invite each other in.”
It was very interesting to be in the audience and see what happens during commercials. The LIVE show stops for commercials just as it does if you are watching it on TV. We also had a view of set changes behind the stage and watched as dancers prepared for their performance with Cardi B and J Lo.
The show included a special tribute to Diana Ross in which her grandson introduced her.
A couple of my favorite performances included Lady Gaga and her Grammy Award for the song Shallow from the movie “A Star is Born”. If you haven’t seen this movie, you have to rent it ASAP! It is incredibly powerful – a movie you will remember for a long time!
Lady Gaga went home with 3 Grammy Awards related to the song “Shallow” and the movie.
Another one of my favorite performances was by Travis Scott.
You may know him better as Kylie Jenner’s Baby Daddy. Travis is an exceptionally talented rapper and has been nominated for multiple Grammys over the years. Unfortunately he has not won one yet, but we are hopeful.
This is Travis Scott singing and performing a medley of “Stop Trying to be God” and “No Bystanders” at the Grammys. He was joined by musician James Blake and Earth, Wind & Fire’s Philip Bailey. The electric performance had Travis performing in a cage and then diving into a crowd.
Travis is a rapper, producer and video director who released his debut LP, Rodeo, in 2015. His first three solo studio albums all went platinum, and his third LP, 2018’s Astroworld, gave him his first No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200, along with his first GRAMMY-nominated album.
Other performances included Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Dan + Shay, Post Malone,
Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monáe, Kacey Musgraves, and Jennifer Lopez.
The LIVE Telecast Show was non stop action and fun, mainly focusing on performances. In fact, the majority of the awards are given out at the Premiere Ceremony and only a few awards are given out at the LIVE Telecast Show.
We had the time of our lives and felt incredibly honored to be a part of this momentous event, that we enjoyed with good friends. I wanted to share the experience with you, after all – everything is better when shared 🙂
