Situated on 2,000 acres, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is located in the Laurel Highlands of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
The expansive property features luxurious guest rooms, suites, townhomes, and luxury vacation homes, including the Falling Rock boutique hotel, a recipient of the Forbes 2018 World’s Most Luxurious Hotels award.
Falling Rock
We have visited Nemacolin many times over the years, but this was our time staying at Falling Rock. The Resort offers accommodations at different price points, and its rooms at Falling Rock are among the most expensive. Falling Rock is considered the resort’s upper tier and offers a unique experience to it’s guest. There are only 45 rooms at Falling Rock, so it feels less crowded and more exclusive than other parts of the Resort.
As a guest of Falling Rock, you have access to its concierge service, which includes a butler for each room. Your butler will draw a variety of different types of baths for you, and bring you fresh baked cookies each evening along with the turn down service. There are 30 different types of pillows from which to choose and complimentary non alcoholic drinks are stocked in your private fridge. A variety of hot drinks are delivered to your room each morning and complimentary valet service is offered as well.
Falling Rock is very nice, comfortable, and elegantly rustic. The building is separate from the other buildings but only a short shuttle ride away from the Chateau. A large gold Christmas tree was situated in the lobby of Falling Rock.
Falling Rock also has a lobby bar with very attentive and experienced bartenders.
Chateau Lafayette
The next tier of rooms at the Resort are located in the Chateau Lafayette.
We typically stay at the Chateau and find it to be very luxurious and comfortable. The exterior was beautifully decorated with a huge red ribbon and an enormous lighted tree.
Wreaths hung between the red awnings lining the circular driveway.
Each evening during the Christmas season, there was a short light show outside the Chateau. You can view it HERE.
The lobby of the Chateau was decorated with bright red elements.
Three metal Christmas trees were predominately displayed near the entrance.
Fresh red roses, berries, and amaryllis looked lovely in silver containers.
The Amaryllis plants were beautiful, and displayed throughout the resort.
Decorative garland lined the wood paneling in the lobby of the Chateau.
Hallways of the Nemacolin Woodland Resort
The Resort is expansive and the Chateau connects to the Lodge through hallways lined with Christmas trees.
Fresh flowers are everywhere.
Wreaths hang on the walls of the hallways.
A giant real gingerbread house was in the process of being dismantled. I would have loved to see it fully decorated with candy.
The entrance to the coffee house was decorated with extensive garland and nutcrackers.
Heading towards the Lodge, there is a sitting area with the founder’s picture hanging over the fireplace. Joseph Hardy III is the founder and owner of 84 Lumber and was turning 97 years old the week we were visiting. He is always photographed with a cigar in his mouth, as he is a big fan. I wonder how he made it to 97 years old smoking all that tobacco?
Cigar Room at Nemacolin
Since Joseph Hardy was such a cigar fan, seems fitting that there is a cigar lounge on the property.
With pictures of famous guests to the Resort.
Arboretum at Nemacolin
As we continue our walk towards the Lodge, we pass the arboretum.
Adorned with live white orchids, greenery and amaryllis, the room is definitely a place to stop and enjoy the flowers.
The plants are changed out every 2 months and wedding ceremonies are performed in front of the fountain.
The Lodge has the most economical room rates for the Resort. I have never stayed there, but my husband did during a work function and said it was quite nice. The entire resort went through an extensive 35 million dollar renovation which was completed in 2015. We remember the resort prior to the renovation….let’s just say….there is a HUGE improvement now!
Conference Facilities at Nemacolin
The conference center has 32,000 sq feet of meeting and banquet facilities.
And was beautifully decorated with ornate garland.
Outdoor Christmas Light Display at Nemacolin
Heading outside, large lighted display shined brightly.
Thousands of lights lined the streets of the resort, you can see the video below.
Trees throughout the resort were wrapped in lights.
And finally…
The entrance to the Resort was brightly lit as it greets visitors from all over the country.
Other Attractions at Nemacolin Woodland Resort
The resort offers many other amenities like a Field Club, featuring a Shooting Academy, an outdoors sporting facility, sporting clays, and Fly Fishing. In addition, the Wildlife Academy is home of the Equestrian Center, animal nursery, and animal habitats. Black bears, zebra, buffalo, tigers and hyenas are just some of over 100 animals that currently call Nemacolin home. The Resort also offers skiing and snow tubing during Winter months.
The resort boasts several restaurants and lounges, including the Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond Lautrec, a fine dining experience, one of only 30 in the world to boast such awards simultaneously. Daily art tours of the multi-million dollar Hardy Family Art Collection are available along with shopping at a variety of specialty shops throughout the resort.
In a prior visit to the Resort, we experienced its fabulous teatime, check out Nemacolin Woodland Resort – English Tea Time.
I hope you enjoyed the Christmas Tour of the Resort. The decorations were so beautiful, I am happy we had a chance to visit during the season. We love the Resort and visit as often as possible. Our kids love it too and are always asking to return. It’s a great place to spend with family during the Winter and Summer months. Have you ever visited the Resort?

Wow – what a beautiful place to vacation! It looks like you could spend an entire day just wandering the lovely halls! 💗 Thanks for sharing – I’d love to visit there some winter. Now I’m heading over to your English Tea post! 😉
Barbara, you would love it! It has something for everyone…adults and kids. Hope you get chance to visit someday or just stop in to look around 🙂
It’s beautiful Denise – the flowers alone are stunning and I loved the video of the lights lining the streets.
SO glad you enjoyed it Joni. It’s really a special place, hope you get the chance to visit one day.
Not likely I would ever be in that part of the country, but it’s still nice to see!
