Who else loves French Toast? Foods that have the word “french” in the name are just better. Take French Fries, French Bread, French Onion Soup, French Crepes, and French Scalloped Potatoes. Just sayin….
How to Make Delicious French Toast
French Toast is not French but it is the perfect breakfast food. It’s sweet, it’s hearty and can be served with so many accoutrements. Strawberries, blueberries, bananas, maple syrup, pecans, walnuts and sugar to name a few. And some people even like ketchup on their toast…like my daughter! To each their own, whichever way you like to eat them, there is no denying it is a breakfast favorite.
Here is a simple and delicious French Toast Recipe I use with my family that you can whip up in a jiffy.
Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 5 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8 slices wheat, white, country white, or brioche bread
- 1/2 cup maple syrup, warmed (optional)
- Confectioners sugar (optional)
- Fruit such as Strawberries, Blueberries, and Bananas
- Nuts such as Walnuts, Almonds, and Pecans
1.) In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar and set aside.
2.) In a 10-inch or 12-inch skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Whisk together cinnamon mixture, eggs, milk, and vanilla then pour into a shallow container.
3.) Dip both sides of bread in egg mixture. Fry slices until golden brown, then flip to cook the other side.
4.) Repeat with the remainder bread slices, using 2 tablespoons butter for each batch.
Tip: Very fresh bread may be a bit soft and get a little soggy. You may want to slightly toast or let bread sit out so it hardens up a bit…only need to do this with white sandwich bread. I like to use country white thick sliced bread, the denser the bread, the better it will stay together.
Serving the Toast with Pure Maple Syrup is my favorite way to enjoy this breakfast treat.
The whole family loves this recipe and my son says it tastes like cinnamon toast crunch cereal! I hope you enjoy it too! Let me know what you think!

It looks great, esp that last picture with the bacon. I haven’t had breakfast yet and am hungry!
Hi Joni, you should try it! It’s filling and you won’t need to eat again until dinner! I hope you enjoy it 🙂
I usually like my French toast, just plain with butter and maple syrup, but may try the spices next time.
It add a bit of sweetness and extra taste and my kids like it this way which is a plus. I can go either way Joni, plain or with spice 🙂 Give it a try and let me know what you think!
