Our 2020 Family Summer Vacation during a Pandemic

What will summer vacation look like in 2020? Does it make sense to even take a family vacay?

The year 2020 will go down as the strangest year I have ever experienced in my life. 2020 will be known as the year the world shut down due to a deadly pandemic that affected just about every single person…all to varying degrees.

Bethany Summer Vacay-21As we adjust to a new normal but our lives are still so uncertain and we are wearing masks to prevent the spread of a second way of the virus, does it make sense to take a family vacation this year? We want to get away and enjoy time together outside the confines of our home, but know there are many limitations on activities that we would want to enjoy during a typical vacation. Where does that leave us?

We are choosing a beach vacation within driving distance to our home. We want to avoid an airplane so this option seems to be a perfect fit. We are lucky enough to have family who own a beautiful home in Bethany and that is where we are choosing to spend our summer vacation. As an added bonus, we get to spend time with extended family whom we have missed seeing so much due to COVID.

Today I am sharing relaxing and calming pictures of our 2020 family vacation at the beach. We didn’t visit any restaurants or step foot on the beach, but instead spent time talking, laughing, eating, drinking, boating and watching the sun set.

How about you, will you take a family vacation this year?

  1. Had to cancel our family trip to the Keys this past June..All 4 kids, spouses and significants were able to finally adjust their schedules this year and fly in..but it wasn’t meant to be. 😞 I’m still so sad..but what can we do?

Husband and I took a nice walk on the beach this morning before it closes (again) this afternoon..worries about overcrowding for the holiday week-end..lots of restaurants closing too.

Gotta take it a day at a time. Your pictures are beautiful..as always.
    Enjoy your week-end.

    1. Oh no Cindy! No sorry about your vacation, hopefully you can reschedule for a later date. I’m not a fan of crowds so staying away from the beach is easy for me. But yes, one day at a time 🙂 Enjoy the holiday!!

  2. Oh Denise – your photographs are beautiful!! I feel like I took your vacation with you! Plus how darling are you in that mask!?! 🙂 So glad you had a good time with family – take care and Happy 4th! 💗

    1. Being with family is always a good time!! And combine super fun activities and it turns into a blast! So glad you enjoyed the pics 🙂

    1. Hi Joni, Bethany Beach is in Delaware. A very nice family town with plenty to do. But we stayed far away from the beaches, restaurants, and shops. It is located close to Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City…which both get quite crowded in the summer.

      1. Thanks Denise….just couldn’t place it. It looks very nice. Very wise to keep your distance from anyplace crowded. We see the beaches crowded here too, mostly invincible young people!

      2. Absolutely Joni and mostly in bars! I love hanging out with friends and find an intimate setting so much more fun than a big public space. Happy 4th!!
