Taking down Christmas can leave our homes feeling so empty and stark looking.
Many of us start undecorating shortly after Christmas. I start after the first of the new year and transitioning to winter decor is my objective.
In our region, Winter weather doesn’t get going until January and February. The days are dark, dreary and short. I would love to focus on Spring, but let’s be honest we are a long ways from tulips and daffodils! So I focus on cozying up our home with a few remnants of the Holidays and I do it all without spending a dime!
We are waiting for our first snow storm of the season. I love having indoor elements similar to the outdoors. I kept the flocked garland hanging on the mantel, in anticipation of a fun beautiful snowy day at home.
If you live in a region that doesn’t get snow, you may want to decorate with just greenery or small green trees around your home.
Removing all the red from the room and taking down our large tree removed the “Christmasy” feel and makes our home ready for Winter.
I used the frosted magnolias that were on the tree and added them to the garland on the mantel.
In place of the large tree, I moved our small White House ornament tree to the right of the room. It gives the perfect snowy effect and I adore those twinkling lights.
Warm white lights are on repeat in our home. I will keep those up as long as possible.
Frosted florals are also still present in our room, along with fuzzy throws and white velvet pillows. Lit candles add to the ambiance of the winter decor and the overhead chandelier adds the perfect amount of dim light.
I am still crazy about my new tufted sofa and it just brings the room together.

Coming up!
I am working on refinishing a beautiful cabinet I found thrifting. Our family room is the next room to get a cozy update for Winter. I am going to add this beautiful cabinet to the room, once I complete it. My vision is blue and gold 🙂 Stay tuned!

Oh this is absolutely gorgeous Denise! I’m in love with that stunning white mantel! And yes, keep the lights up as long as you can – they’re the crowning touch. I’d love to sit in that lovely room, with a fire, watching a snow storm! 🙂 Hope you get lots of lovely downtime, and Happy Winter, my friend!
Thanks so much Barbara! Yup going slow over here with undecorating, as I slowly transition to winter decor. Still waiting for a snow storm too, will be so pretty when it does finally happen. Hope you are enjoying snow where you live! Happy Winter to you too! ❤️
