Dining Room Renovation – One Room Challenge (Week 4)

This past week has been discouraging…items for my dining room renovation have arrived but I’m not feeling good about the products.

What is The One Room Challenge?

The One Room Challenge™ is a biannual event every April and October and is currently in its fifteenth season. Each round, twenty design bloggers take the challenge and transform a space. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over six weekly posts.

The ORC has teamed up with Better Homes and Garden HERE to bring you this highly anticipated event.

My Participation in The One Room Challenge

This round will complete my fifth season of the “One Room Challenge”. So many other talented people are also participating as guests, please check out their spaces HERE.

Week 4 Progress

There wasn’t any, that about sums it up! As my pieces for the remodel began to arrive..I became increasing more concerned with how this was all going to come together. Let’s discuss.

o8GKp186S2G2i2IMJnuAHwThe slipcovered chairs were delivered. At first glance, they looked great with the rug..woohoo! That’s a win!

bsyyS4ReRQGvQtBnPZvpewBut they don’t look great with my current chairs!

qfuSxRnlSbqqRGGTP4vMzAThis is the same fabric and color. Granted..my chairs are several years old and have probably faded with the sun, but I actually really like the lighter color. I don’t like the chairs together and I’m certainly not willing to spend the money to keep chairs that are so different in color. Fail!

Let’s discuss the mirror.

k3tNNooDTbetDCHaiQqoFAIt’s over 100 pounds which is fine but I don’t see how we can safely hang the mirror horizontally on the wall. The back is very thin and the frame doesn’t look like it can support the weight of the mirror. While the manufacturer recommended it to be a leaning mirror, I thought I’d give it a shot. But now that I see the back of the frame..I realize it should not be hung on the wall and won’t be a safe option. Another fail 😒

Where do we go from here? I still believe in my vision and original plan for the room. But every great plan has challenges and frustrations. I’ll have to modify my plan and do the best I can.

Check back next week and hopefully we will have moved on with a new plan.

    1. It is so frustrating Barbara to see your vision fall apart 😒 But I’ll do the best I can..thanks for your encouragement friend! xo

  1. How disappointing for you, but I agree about the chairs, the lighter is nicer, the other too taupey. But I’m loving that blue rug!

    1. Hi Joni! Yes me too. I am keeping the vintage rug. It is disappointing when your plan falls apart but that’s ok..I’ll modify it and pray it still works out!
