Delicious Pecan Apple Crisp Recipe

Our home has been smelling so yummy lately with scents of the Fall season.

Our daughter was recently home visiting from college and she spoiled us with her own pumpkin bread recipe.

She added chocolate chips to the mix and it was well…different! Our son ate almost the whole loaf by himself (not all in one sitting) 🙂 He’s been working hard lately at exercising and watching his intake so the treat was well deserved.

Do you remember the apple topiary I recently made? Well, I couldn’t let all those red delicious apples go to waste, so I made pecan apple crisp for the family. We LOVE Pecans! If you do too, check out my Amazing Candied Pecan Recipe, so easy, delicious and makes a great snack.

This project was so fun. Starting with a fall centerpiece, then taking the apples and using them in recipes. Tomorrow, I’m going to make some apple butter! I plan to can a jar and save it for Thanksgiving Day.

This pecan apple crisp dish is so good. Perfect for the season as a treat or for the Thanksgiving table. A dish to be enjoyed by all. The pecans can be eliminated for those with allergies, and the recipe turns into a delicious apple crisp.

How to Make Pecan Apple Crisp

Ingredients

Topping

Apple filling

  • 2 lbs red delicious apples (at room temperature) peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 3 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

How to Make a Pecan Apple Crisp

1.) Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Butter an 8 x 8 serving dish.

2.) In a mixing bowl whisk together flour, oats, brown sugar, pecans, baking powder, cinnamon and salt.

3.) Add diced butter, using fingertips, rub butter into dry mixture until it forms into small crumbles. Chill while preparing filling.

4.) In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and flour until well blended, then mix in water, lemon juice and vanilla. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
5.) Place apples in a large bowl and add butter mixture over apples and toss to evenly coat, then pour apple mixture into prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
Tip: I like to peel my apples for a cleaner taste but you don’t have to..it’s personal preference.
6.) Remove topping from refrigerator and sprinkle into crumbles evenly over top of apples.
7.) Bake in preheated oven until top is golden brown and apples are tender, approximately 35 minutes.
Tip: Use fresh brown sugar. Mine was old and it made the topping look a bit dry, but the taste was still delicious.
Enjoy this delectable Fall dessert and serve warm with vanilla ice cream and salted caramel sauce (if desired).
Apple desserts are all part of the Fall experience, along with cozy blankets, crisp mornings, warm cider, pumpkins and walks through the Autumn leaves. I hope you are enjoying your Fall 🙂
