No Better Time than Now to Get Our Bodies Fit and in Shape

While we all struggle with self quarantine, social distancing, and lack of a regular schedule, we can use this time to make a positive impact on ourselves as well as others.

There is no better time than now to get in shape. Many of us are home. We have more free time than we know what to do with, and are being diligent about staying inside. Let’s make a positive impact on our bodies and begin an exercise routine! 🙂 While we are home working on our bodies, we are also helping others too by not passing the virus along in case we are carriers of Covid 19. Exercise benefits our body and mind. It will also provide a rush of endorphins which trigger a positive feeling in our bodies, which I am definitely lacking these days…

Floor Exercises to Do at Home

If you do not have exercise equipment at home, there are exercises you can do to raise you heart rate and get fit. For cardio, focus on exercises with different levels of intensity. For example, you might alternate a high-intensity exercise such as jumping jacks or burpees with an easier move such as marching in place. Check out Building a High Intensity Interval Training Home Gym if you are interested in HIIT work outs.

Gym Covid 19-6I have noticed that I am not as strong as I used to be, and I feel more clumsy and klutzy. I feel things slipping out of my hands more easily and I am not as agile as I was in the past. This definitely concerns me, but I am confident that I can get the feeling back if I work at strengthening my muscles. I used to work out 2- 3 times every week for most of my life but I have fallen off the wagon big time when it comes to exercising.

Strength Training Exercises to do at Home

For strength training, I am choosing pushes, pulls, front-of-leg, back-of-leg, and core movements, such as squats, lunges, pushups, and dips. Since I haven’t worked out in a while, I am stretching before and after exercises. I have started stretching mornings and evenings in addition to before and after exercises. It’s surprising at how stiff you will get when you stop working out and sit around more…it’s important to continue to stretch your muscles and perform strength training exercises, especially as we age.

“If you don’t use it….you lose it”

Gym Covid 19-5Using my handy dandy wall chart as a reference, I am beginning a strength training regime using lighter weights from 15 pairs of Dumbbells, and working my way up to heavier ones. This Rack neatly stores all 30 dumbbells.

Starting with total body dumbbell exercises, the “wood chop” and “plank t” work a wide range of muscles. For an upper body workout, I normally do 10-15 reps of the “chest press” and “arm rotation” exercises. You may want to lower the weight of your dumbbell when performing the “skull crusher”! Don’t want any accidents in the gym 😬

Cardiovascular Exercises to do at Home

Gym Covid 19-1For a heavier cardio workout, even though I find it daunting, The Ultimate Exercise Bike to Burn Tons of Calories is one of my husband’s favorite pieces of cardio equipment. I feel more comfortable on my recumbent bike but deep down I know I need to raise the “bar” and work out harder if I want to achieve serious results.

Our Newest Piece of Rogue Equipment

Gym Covid 19Speaking of working out hard, my husband uses our gym a lot. In addition, to Taekwon do and Jiujitsu, he trains in our home gym when he has time. The latest piece of equipment added to our Rogue arsenal is the “landmine“.

Gym Covid 19-3The landmine attaches easily to the Monsterlite rack.

Gym Covid 19-4And works with our existing bars. Popular Landmine Exercises include Landmine Press, Landmine Row, Bent Over Row, Push Press, Push Jerk, Deadlift, Cleans, and Standing Barbell Russian Twist.

It’s going to be a while before I myself start using this heavy duty piece of equipment…for now, I’ll stick to my dumbbells 😉

Gym Covid 19-2Check out Building “The Ultimate Home Gym” the Rogue Way to see the full arsenal of Rogue equipment we own if you are looking to build your own professional home gym.

If not now…when? Now is the time to finally shed those extra holiday pounds because when this virus ends…and it WILL END….summer will be here and we will want to look our very best! Pool season is right around the corner, summer parties are on the horizon and we have to get toned and in shape now! Who’s with me?! Woop Woop!!🙌

  1. YES! You hit the nail on the head! I’m actually in a critical industry so don’t have time at home, but exercise is just as important for those of us still working. It sure helps with stress!

I’m impressed with your husband’s weights, but I’d stick to dumbells too! 😉

Take care out there and Happy Exercising! 💗

    1. Hi Barbara! I think exercise would help us all emotionally and physically! This is a very tough time for all of us. Today it was announced that our schools are closed for the remainder of the school year 😬 it’s just crazy out there now…but we will get through this!!!

  2. We are walking..2X a day, 5 miles..staying ten feet apart from anyone we pass. It’s great to see people..to say hi..to feel the sun..to see my dog so happy- not a care in the world.. 🐶

    1. That sounds perfect Cindy. As soon as our weather warms up, I plan to walk everyday. Our puppy will welcome the walks too! Sunshine and exercise makes everyone feel better.

      1. It has to be tough for people living in apartments without yards and neighborhoods but luckily we can go out to get supplies…even that small outing helps a lot. Stay safe Cindy!
