Our Thanksgiving to Christmas Kitchen Table

Our Thanksgiving table is rather non traditional. I like to combine the two big holidays Thanksgiving and Christmas which makes it easy to segway into full on reds, greens, and whites.

How to Transition your Table from Thanksgiving to Christmas

I know I’m not the only one who feels this way, if we can combine the two holidays and start the transition a bit early…that’s perfectly okay. It doesn’t take anything away from Thanksgiving, in fact it adds to the spirit and makes it extra joyful in my eyes. It gives guests an opportunity to get a sneak peek into our Christmas decor and the excitement starts to build.

We have so much to be thankful for, the day was delightful. Anytime we get together with family makes us all happy. Smaller this year than in the past but still very special and intimate. Our Thanksgiving table was festive with green and white plaid napkins, garland and pinecones lined down the middle of the table with white candles and red apples. The chargers were champagne colored and the plates were green and white with reindeer. Not overly Christmas, not overly Thanksgiving – a nice mix of the two.

Add Garland to the Chandelier

The chandelier is adorned with faux cedar greenery which I love and use all over our home. It’s super pliable and drapes beautifully.

The day after Thanksgiving, I moved into full on Christmas table decor.

Change the Plates and Chargers for a Festive Christmas Look

I had just received these beautiful plates from Arthur Court Designs. They look so lovely on my table and go perfectly with so many dinnerware pieces I already own.

The plates are melamine making them so durable and useful. They will be perfect for our new outdoor space that will be ready in 2021.

The plates pair perfectly with these silver chargers bringing a beautiful elegance to the table.

I like how the plates can be dressed up or down, like a good pair of comfortable jeans 😉

Create a Centerpiece with Christmas Colors

The table feels so romantic and cozy with glistening lights. I lined 3 candles of different heights down the center, surrounded with rings (SIMILAR), and added a string of miniature lights.

Using these napkin holders from years past, tied the look together, they are so vibrant and bright. You can find similar ones HERE.

Add Colorful Placemats

But my favorite addition are these ruby red velvet placemats!

They are just fabulous! You know I love red, white, and green for the holidays and the richness of velvet is spectacular.

And the tree! What fun I had decorating this beauty. It’s a 10 ft slim and so easy to put up and take down. My husband can attest to that 😉 If you are interested, you can check out my My Favorite Faux Christmas Trees. In an upcoming post, I will show you how I did the ribbon, quite easy but it does take some trail and error. I’ll pass on all my tips to you.

Hoping you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well. Looking forward to 2021 and putting this crazy year behind us. 2020 has changed us all forever, and we have learned so much. I look forward to new beginnings next year and building on what we have learned this year. We will never forget the less fortunate and those who lost loved ones this year, you will always be in our prayers.

  1. Denise, I love how you have new ideas every year. You are such an inspiration to me!! Now do you guys eat every night on that beautiful table or eat at your bar?? Anyway, love your table & tree!!

    1. Aw you’re so sweet Donna, hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We eat at the table everyday, the bar is too full of everything else!! Makes me nuts, but with kids home 24/7 it’s hard to keep clean.

  2. Oooh my favorite chargers! 🙂 This is gorgeous Denise! My husband asked for red decorations this year, and you have just completely inspired me! Red velvet, here we come!!

    1. Red velvet is my absolute favorite. So rich and pretty, I’m sure you will love it too! Happy Decorating Barbara

  3. Hi – I like the plaid napkins and those “ruby” placemats are rich – I can see why you like them as a recent addition
    And nice transition from thanksgiving
Are melamine plates safe – I am sure they are – but when I hear that word I get cautious – I know the brand “Tag” makes some good melamine products but I feel on the fence – do you ever worry about that?

    1. Hey! I don’t worry about that. I feel confident that harmful products like BPA are not included in the plates. So glad you like the place setting, they are so much fun to put together 🙂
