How to Keep Your Shoe Closet Stylish and Up to Date

Keeping up to date with the latest trends in fashion may be a bit overwhelming. Something that can help us feel a bit more confident about ourselves is knowing how to maximize a look for the season, like finding the perfect dress for summer. Unfortunately, things get a bit more complicated when it comes to shoes. If you’ve found yourself ruining an outfit with the wrong pair of shoes, then here are a few tips to make sure your shoe closet is always chic and stylish.

Combine Slightly Different Clothes and Shoes

Celebrities like Lady Diana were praised for following the trend of matching dress and shoes colors and patterns perfectly. And while the practice of matching shoes with an outfit is still considered a classic, it can also be perceived as a bit old-fashioned.

Wearing a dress with a fun pattern in combination with a single color pair of shoes can make a look pop. The key is to keep the pairs slightly mismatched. You can make a look more sophisticated when you wear a pair of shoes in a slightly darker shade, or play with contrasting colors in an outfit.

Don’t Be Afraid of Looking into Second Hand Shoes

Browsing through second-hand clothing stores can be an exciting adventure. We have all heard stories of friends finding their favorite blouse or pants in the most unexpected places. And there’s absolutely no reason why the same couldn’t happen with your shoe shopping.

Secondhand shopping can be quite a productive adventure. You may be able to find a variety of models you could never hope to encounter in a store. In fact, many a bargain hunter has found an almost perfect pair of shoes for a fraction of the price— and you could, too.

Treat Your Shoes Gently

Often the best way to make sure your shoes look as good as the day you bought them is to simply take better care of them. For example, suede is a beautiful material, but it’s also surprisingly hard to maintain. White soles, too, can yellow, and leather can dry and crack. Following blogs on how to clean shoes, as well as keeping the humidity in your shoe closet low, are simple yet effective ways to make sure your shoes will last a lifetime.

Keeping Up to Date with the Latest Trends

One of the biggest challenges of staying trendy when it comes to shoes is how fast fashion evolves. New materials are constantly being developed in order to make footwear more comfortable, durable, and sustainable.

Having said that, there’s a lot of devoted fans that dedicate their time to finding and discussing the latest in shoe news. One of the best options is to join a sneaker community, where you can keep track of which models and colorways have captured the public’s attention. It’s also a great place to find information about upcoming releases, and can even give you access to member discounts.

Style from Head to Toe

Finding new ways to keep your shoe closet stylish can be surprisingly fun, but it can take a bit of effort and investment. If you want to look chic from head to toe, then the above tips are a great way to get started

  1. Great advice Denise! I’m just about ready to do some shoe shopping myself – thanks for the reminder to check the pre-loved shops! 🙂 Hope you’re having a great February so far!

    1. Glad you found it helpful Barbara. I’m always on the hunt for good shoes and boots too…stylish ones of course. I was just reading an article this morning on the billion dollar ugly shoe industry! Very intriguing…

  2. Oh my…shoes?? My husband has always said I have succeeded Imalda Marcus in shoes…lol I’ve never had that many but I do love shoes for different outfits. I keep telling myself that I’m not going to buy anymore shoes!!

    1. I think I may have said that once or twice too Nancy but here I am! Buying more shoes 😉 I love shoes, boots and all the different styles that come out each season. I have a collection myself.
