It’s Halloween Day and there is only one short week left before the final reveal and I can’t wait to show you the Total Transformation!
This past week was filled with putting the finishing touches on the exterior of the home. The main brick dwelling is complete and my painters were focused on painting all the non brick elements such as the iron railings, the front doors, garage doors, and the trim.
WHAT IS THE ONE ROOM CHALLENGE
The One Room Challenge™ is a biannual event every April and October and is currently in its sixteenth season. Each round, twenty design bloggers take the challenge and transform a space. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over six weekly posts.
The ORC has teamed up with Better Homes and Garden HERE to bring you this highly anticipated event.
MY PARTICIPATION IN THE ONE ROOM CHALLENGE
This round will complete my sixth season of the “One Room Challenge”. So many other talented people are also participating as guests, please check out their spaces HERE.
Prior Weeks Progress of our Exterior Modernization
This season, I am modernizing the exterior of our home. You can catch up on the details from last week below.
- Home Exterior Modernization – “ORC” (Wk 1)
- Exterior Home Modernization “ORC” (Wk 2) Prepping the Brick for Primer
- Home Exterior Modernization “ORC” (Wk 3) Priming the Brick
- Home Exterior Modernization “ORC” (Wk 4) Painting Our Brick Home
Week 5 Progress of our Home Exterior Makeover
All the finishing touches were made to the home this week including railings, doors, gutters, and trim.
Painting the Iron Railings
The process was slow going as it was all done by hand with a paint brush. Can you imagine using a sprayer with black paint after everything had just been painted white?
The retaining wall railings were painted by hand as well.
Painting the Front Double Doors
Our front doors were previously painted a brownish black but I wanted the frame around the doors painted black as well.
So my painters put a fresh coat of dark black paint on the exterior side of the doors.
Painting Garage Doors
I made a last minute decision to paint the garage doors black and we couldn’t be happier! They look amazing with the white brick! They looked fine in their original color of white but they really POP in black and look beautiful!!!
All the lanterns on the house were painted too, about 15 in total – which saves us a bit of money for the time being. Eventually we will replace them all, but for now, they look 100% better with fresh paint.
Exterior lighting is going in this week and I can’t wait to see the house lit at night. My outdoor decor is slowly arriving piece by piece. I will work on getting everything put together for the BIG REVEAL NEXT WEEK! Stay Tuned Friends!

I wish you all a fun and safe Halloween 🎃 Our neighborhood has a party for the kids after school where they show up in their costumes and have an opportunity to have their faces painted, balloons made and run around with friends before an evening of trick or treating☠️ It’s always a blast for adults and kids alike. I’ll post pictures on Instagram of the cute costumes. Stay SAFE!

Your Halloween sounds like it’s going to be a great time. Since we don’t have kids at home or even kids who come to Trick or Treat on our street, I’ll share your party via Instagram! 🙂 Have fun out there!
